Milne Bay Accepts First Teacher Trainees

For the first time in history, Milne Bay Province has accepted teacher trainees from colleges, to undertake training in the schools within the province. 

This is the provincial government’s new approach, prioritizing in education and promoting the province. Milne Bay Province is the proud recipient of the first teacher trainees, from Gaulim Teachers College in the East New Britain Province.

 

Governor, Titus Philemon, while welcoming the trainees, said the provincial government will continue to support education initiatives, such as teacher incentives, educational institutions maintenance and employment packages.

 

The principal highlighted risks were involved, but Gaulim Teachers College, for the last 48 years, has survived. The Milne Bay experience was to retrace history, of its origin.

 

The 63 trainees will undertake five weeks of teaching experience in schools around Alotau District. This is a good exposure for the trainees, as in the last years, training was only within the New Guinea Islands region.
