The Department of Trade, Commerce and Industry, and the Yangoru-Saussia District, paid a sum of K539, 000 to local company Phimak Limited, to commence the scope and design phase of the Yangoru-Saussia Mobile Squad Police Barracks project.
With the government’s stake in the K100 million oil palm project in Yangoru-Saussia, the barracks will house personnel deployed to enforce law and order in the area. The barracks falls under the government’s key infrastructure plan for the Sepik Plains Oil Palm Project.
The Project Coordinator of the Sepik Plains Oil Palm Project, Rueben Ape explained that out of the K100 million investment, the police barracks is estimated to cost around K15 million once the scoping and designing is completed.
Other projects that have commenced include the upgrading of roads, rural electrification that is currently under construction, and education; all part of the district’s priority-development areas.
The barracks will go through its designing phase in the next three months with construction scheduled to begin early next year
