Accommodation woes for team Milne Bay

By Bethanie Harriman – EM TV, Lae

A day before the opening of the PNG Games and team Milne Bay is struggling to settle down.

The team arrived yesterday and found that accommodation was not ready, because payments weren’t made.

It comes as other teams settle into final preparations for the games beginning in a little under twenty-four hours.

The dormitories weren’t ready because the organising committee didn’t make payments even thought the Milne Bay provincial government had already made the payments to the PNG Games committee.

Joshua Eisai is responsible for the Milne Bay soccer team that won Gold in the 2012 PNG Games in East New Britain.

He explains the difficulty, bringing a team expected to do well this year, but coming to find accommodation not ready.

“We came to Unitech, but the institute wasn’t ready,” he says.

Today team members were still sweeping out dust from the dormitories while other provincial teams have settled and have begun training for the upcoming games.

PNG Unitech staff was responsive to the team today, allocating rooms for the athletes to settle and get prepared.

It’s understood that logistics will become a hassle for most teams, but for team Milne this is the first and an embarrassment for the Games Committee.
