A new office complex and ward for the Kerema General Hospital is soon to be completed for use.
Chief executive of the hospital, Moses Uvaipi, says the buildings will minimise overcrowding of patients in some of the wards; for the hospital this is the first of its kind.
The building will house the hospital’s administration and a patient ward. The chief executive says an agreement with non-government organisation, Doctors Without Borders, has resulted in the building of a proper hospital mess.
Meanwhile, tuberculosis awareness and treatment at the hospital is progressing, with outreach programs to districts outside the town early next year.
Kerema Hospital is one of the leas- developed hospitals in the country. The past 10 years have seen the hospital struggle in accommodating patients, its staff and maintenance of facilities.
