2026 TRUKAI FUN RUN SHOWCASES UNITY ACROSS PNG

The 2026 Trukai Fun Run officially commenced today the 12th of July, with seven provinces across Papua New Guinea taking part, proudly supporting team PNG while showcasing community spirit, physical health and Unity.
The annual Trukai Fun Run is Papua New Guinea’s largest community sporting event and the biggest fundraiser for the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee. The event is held simultaneously across multiple provincial centers and this year participating locations are Port Moresby, Lae, Madang, Kokopo, Goroka, Kundiawa and Mt. Hagen.
For Port Moresby the participants gathered at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium where the event started. The participants then procced on their course along the Paga Hill Ring Road beside APEC Haus.
The event brough together athletes, corporate teams, partners, government bodies, different state agencies and communities across National Capital District. Police, St John Ambulance and other emergency and support personnel were also present at the event, accompanying the runners and ensuring the event was conducted safely and smoothly.
Speaking during the opening of the event, the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee Treasurer and Team PNG Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Chef de Mission, Elaine Lorive highlighted how the event brings diverse people together for one shared purpose.
“Looking around today, I see families, children, community groups, corporate teams, government officers, Police, Defense Force and CIS. This shows the true spirit of sports. It brings us together, no matter who we are, or where we come from. Today, we stand as a team, wearing the same colors and supporting the same course. Thank You for being here.” Said Elaine Lorive.
She acknowledges the participants and all the sponsors and the strong partners for their continuous support annually and for making it possible for the event to take place.
Trukai Industries Limited Corporate Affairs Manager Jeffrey Levongo, who delivered remarks on behalf of the company highlighted the strong partnership of Trukai and PNG Olympics.
“On behalf of Trukai Industries, I welcome all of you to the fun run. Today we celebrate the massive milestone of 26 years of partnership with the PNG Olympic Committee. Trukai is proud of this partnership and the impact it has on our nation today.” Said Jeffrey Levongo.
“Through your support to the fun run today, you will be helping by making opportunities possible for our elite athletes as they prepare for Glasgow 2026 commonwealth games. This event is a way of assuring them that the country stands behind them every single step of the way”
Before the run start, Elaine Lorive gave a brief outline of the upcoming events for team PNG upcoming events and encourages PNG for backing them with support.
“Next year, team PNG will be travelling to Tahiti for the 2027 Pacific Game. We hope to see you all again and we encourage you to bring your friends, families, colleagues. The more people who join us, the stronger team PNG becomes.”
