PNG NATIONAL CANCER SERVICES AND NEW PORGERA LIMITED JOIN FORCES IN FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER

A team from the National Cancer Services (NCS) Angau Memorial Provincial Hospital carried out a week-long Breast Cancer Awareness and Screening Program for employees and contractors at New Porgera Mining Limited.

According to National Cancer Services this initiative aims to raise awareness about breast cancer and promote early detection through on-site screening and education sessions.

According to the Hospital-Based Cancer Registry, Breast Cancer remains one of the most common cancers affecting both men and women in Papua New Guinea. It is also among the leading causes of cancer-related deaths nationwide, alongside Cervical Cancer in women and Tongue Cancer in both genders.

Every October, known globally as Pinktober, is dedicated to honoring those who have lost their battle with breast cancer, supporting those who are still fighting, and encouraging everyone to stand together in advocacy, awareness, and prevention.

The initiative is supported by New Porgera Limited which demonstrates its strong commitment to the health and wellbeing of its workforce and the broader community.

The team encourages everyone to take advantage of this opportunity for screening and to spread the message of awareness within their families and communities.
