PNGDF ENGINEERING BATTALION CELEBRATES 49 YEARS

The Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) Engineering Battalion at Igam Barracks has marked its 49th anniversary, celebrating nearly five decades of service to the nation.
From humble beginnings, the battalion has grown to become the premier formation of the PNGDF, playing a vital role in national development and community support. Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Velmore Kagena said the unit’s legacy has been built on collaboration, which remains its guiding principle. He acknowledged the contributions of past officers and soldiers whose efforts established the battalion’s credibility and goodwill across the country.
Lieutenant Colonel Kagena explained that the battalion’s work goes beyond construction projects, extending to innovation, partnerships, and capacity-building programs designed to shape Papua New Guinea’s future. He stressed that the unit is committed to building a safer and more connected nation for the next generation.
He further highlighted that the 49th anniversary is a testament to the resilience and continuity of the battalion. The milestone also provides an opportunity to strengthen partnerships, enhance national disaster response, and pioneer sustainable practices through investment in people, technology, and collaboration.
Lieutenant Colonel Kagena commended his team for their dedication and service to the people of Papua New Guinea.
