The construction of a new operating theater at Wabag District Hospital is under construction in Sopas, located several kilometers outside of Wabag Town along the Wabag- Porgera Section of the Highlands Highway.
WDDA Chairman and Local Member Dr Lino Tom highlighted that this new operating theatre will serve the people of Wabag District and Enga Province as a whole.
Dr. Lino mentioned that the ground floor will house a major and minor theatre and a scope room.
He said that the two fully qualified surgeons based at the Wabag District Hospital will ease the burden of the new Enga referral hospital once the new operating theatre comes into operation.
He added that the new Enga referral hospital will deal with specialist medical care from all over the country so it is his responsibility to ensure the district hospital is fully equipped and functioning.
Dr Lino said that Enga is one province that has six (6) fully fledged district hospitals with operating theatre capacity.
“When the new Enga hospital comes into “full operation”, it will strictly be a referral hospital and where all major but straightforward cases will be dealt within the district hospitals,” Lino said.
Meanwhile, he announced that for the seven wards of the Wabag Urban LLG, a new Wabag Town Health Centre will be built at a cost of K10 million.
“Designs have been completed and tender will be out soon in staged phases. Final engineering and geotechnical specs are being finalized,” he concluded.
