Provincial Government has been urged to work in collaboration with the Police in each province, to eradicate Criminal Elements for economic benefit for the Country.
Minister for Internal security Peter Tsiamalili Jnr made this statement on the floor of parliament following a question from the member for Talasea FREDDIE KUMAI on whether the police have plans to establish border post to monitor illegal activities.
Member for Talasea Open Freddie Kumai highlighted on the floor of parliament that the road linking east and West New Britain have created an access route for Criminals to smuggle in Drugs, Illegal firearms and also other illegal activities also seen occurring within the area. Kumai also alluded that such activities is also seen happening at the Maritime Boarders.
Kumai said “Criminal elements have taken advantage of the road link to proliferate crime to new level which has been difficult for drug paddlers, illegal firearms dealers, arms gangs and other criminal activities when there was no road connecting two province, today as I speak there is certain road link involving the maritime province of Morobe, East and West New Britain Province both on land and sea”
Mr. Kumai on the issue questioned the internal security Minister, Peter Tsiamalili Jnr if the Department of police have any plans to establish boarder security, Water Police Post to monitor such activities.
Minister responsible in response highlighted that the RPNGC is well positioned to meet the threats and establishing of Post is the key components of the RPNGC strategic planning to effectively target the criminal elements.
Minister Tsiamalili also called on the provincial Government to work with police to support them to address these issues.
