Pangu welcomes appointment of Ling-Stuckey

The appointment of Treasury Minister, Ian Ling Stuckey, has been welcomed by members of Pangu Pati.

In a media release, Forestry Minister and Pangu Pati member, Solan Mirisin, says the appointment was a transparent decision made by Prime Minister James Marape with the support of all Pangu Pati MP’s.

“Cabinet appointments are entirely his prerogative; he could have decided this on his own.”

“But he was open and transparent. He decided to look to all corners of the House before settling on Ling Stuckey for the important role in government,” said Mirisin.

Mirisin highlighted on Ling-Stuckey’s role in the Opposition as shadow-Treasury Minister before moving to the Government following the appointment, sighting that the Minister has been critical in a very constructive way on the economy and now, as his role as the Treasurer, Ling Stuckey has the opportunity to implement those ideas.

“He was also offering solid fiscal and monetary policy alternatives to help overcome a deepening crisis.”

At his swearing-in-ceremony yesterday, the Treasury Minister said a strong team of advisors are being assembled as the country’s economic situation is in stagnation.

“I am in the process of finalising a very competent economic advisory team. We’re well advanced in putting together a comprehensive economic package but we cannot finalise that until we determine just how deep the economic hole that we now adopt and take over in this country.”

This is the first ministry portfolio for the Kavieng MP.
