Two judges were sworn in on their reappointment of terms in office today at the Government House. Justice Colin Makail and Justice William Neil were appointed distinctively by the Judicial and Legal Services Commission. Presided over the swearing in ceremony of two judges of the Supreme and National Court of Justice was Acting Governor General, Sir Gibbs Salika.
Justice Colin Kenway Makail was reappointed for a period of 10 years, while Justice William Neil was reappointed until His Honour reaches the compulsory retirement age of 75. Given their appointment by the Judicial and Legal Services Commission, both judges recited before the acting Governor General the Declaration of Office, Declaration of Loyalty, and Judicial Declaration.
The swearing in ceremony at Government House this morning was witnessed by acting Chief Justice Ambeng Kandakasi and judges of both the National and Supreme Courts.
Today also marks the first time for Sir Gibbs Salika to preside over a swearing in ceremony as acting Governor General since being appointed Chief Justice of Papua New Guinea.
