Unfavorable Conditions Forces Lareva Market Vendors to Return to Previous Location

By Sharlyne Eri – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Insufficient space, unhygienic conditions and lack of proper water supply at the Lareva market in Port Moresby has forced vendors to consider moving back to the old market location.

Vendors claim the problems faced on a daily basis, and more so a drop in their daily income, has forced them to consider moving to their original location.

The vendors say since the move to the new location, there has been a decline in customer numbers.

They say the original market’s location was more conducive as it was closer the shops and main Hohola bus stop.

The market had been moved in 2018, just prior to the APEC Economic Leaders’ Summit Week.

They were told they would be moved back after the Summit but attempts to move back have been prevented by police.

Plans by Lareva market vendors to move back to the old location was interrupted by the heavy downpour this morning (03 January, 2018).
