Education Minister Nick Kuman says the current elementary school structure will be abolished. He says the current elementary framework has provided dramatically poor results in children’s learning. “The system has proven nothing but bad results in the past 5 years”, said Minister Kuman.

Mr Kuman made these statement following questions raised by Nuku MP Joe Sungi. The Nuku MP was concerned with the curriculum used by the elementary sector, and training programs for teachers.  He questioned what steps the Teachers Service Commission and Education Department planned to take and how they were going about it to address this issues.

Responding without objections, Education Minister Nick Kuman says the current elementary structure will be abolished. He says the Department plans to reintroduce the Standard Based Education framework. “ The current structure will be abolished”, said Kuman.

The Education Minister admitted to the poor performance of students, attending elementary schools throughout the country. He says it has taken 2 years for the Government to improve elementary learning. Minister Kuman says the new structure is expected to be implemented in 2021.
