Akoitai who has been out of politics for 10 years says for Bougainville to achieve autonomy, the leaders must work together. He said a bi-partisan approach is key to achieving outstanding matters for Bougainville.

“I will also enquire how National Government funds are dispersed to the ABG Government,” Akoitai said.

He had petitioned the Electoral Commission for a recount of the Central Bougainville Seat and was declared winner by the Waigani National Court after the recount. Akoitai ousted sitting MP, Fr Simon Dumarinu. The decision was made by Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia on Friday, April 13, 2018.
