All broadcasters and publication agencies in Papua New Guinea might lose their license and have them terminated if they fail to comply with requirements set by the Office of Censorship.
Chief Censor, Steven Mala in an exclusive interview told EMTV News, broadcasters will be slammed with tougher penalties for non-compliance.
” Broadcasters have a responsibility,” said the Chief Censor.
This also applies to any form of content like, music, video and advertisements, publicised through any form of media for entertainment.
Chief Mala said there must be full compliance and maintains the role of the Office of Censorship that is to protect Papua New Guineans from indecent information and materials.
” We are raising a generation who will think that being disrespectful is acceptable through the messages that are shared by these material,” said Mala.
Broadcasting agencies are to comply with requirements of the Office of Censorship or else their license will be terminated.
The Chief Censor also called on all broadcasters and publication agencies to be more professional and be ethical.
In the meantime, musicians have been warned to be considerate to avoid the use of sexually course language in their art.
When asked about a certain song using a PNG staple food for its sexual overtones, he said the song and a whole list of others will be banned.
” THAT song and others on a list that I have will banned from being broadcasted,” Mala said.
