The Papua New Guinea National Cricket teams received a courtesy visit from Former NRL’s Brisbane Broncos player and rugby great, Wendell Sailor today during training.
This was right after attending the Carbine Club Luncheon.
A cricket follower himself, the dual International Rugby Great did not hesitate when a ball was handed to him to test his bowling skills.
43-year-old Wendell Jermaine Sailor, who became popular across the region and famously known in Papua New Guinea as a Brisbane Broncos and a Former Australian Kangaroo, returns to Papua New Guinea after 10 years, this time to observe the PNG Kumuls opener match against Wales tomorrow.
EMTV arrived in time to catch Sailor walking the Amini grounds in awe of teams who have made a name for themselves in the region; the Hebou PNG Barramundis, the CPL PNG Lewas and the U19 Garamuts, all current East Asia Pacific Champions.
With International dual code representations in both Rugby Union and Rugby League behind him, Sailor said perseverance is the key to any great outcome, and Papua New Guinean sports men and women should continue to keep bettering what they do.
Sailor was impressed with how far the National Cricket Team has come.
Sailor will be at the National Football Stadium tomorrow at match time, and given the number of rugby league-mad Papua New Guineans who will be there, the Toress Strait Islander said, “Papua New Guinea Rugby League fans, keep doing what you do, because that is what makes rugby league great in this country”.
