Oro Village Launches Disaster Plan

The people of Ononda Village in the Ijivitari District of Oro today launched their Community Based Disaster Risk Management plan, or CBDRM.

Together with the launching of the plan they launched their rain water storage facility consisting of three water tanks that will supply the village.

These came about as a result of a consultative intervention by the International Organisation for Migration/IOM and the Oro Provincial Disaster Centre and other stakeholders to raise community unity and resilience to impacts of natural disasters by addressing capacity gaps.

The Ononda people themselves made community assessments with help from IOM and other stakeholders and the plan was made to address existing problems in their community, one of which is access to clean water.
