AROB Mining Industry Opens

The mining and exploration industry of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville is officially open.

This follows the uplifting of the moratorium in the areas of Tore, Isina and Jaba, on April 28 this year.

President of the Autonomous Bougainville Government, Chief John Momis, officially declared the mining and exploration activities on May 9, 2017.

Chief Momis says Bougainville is open for business and the Autonomous Bougainville Government has an obligation to fulfill its full economic potential.

“It is my sole priority to see Bougainville sustain itself and achive prosperity,” Momis said.

Local like Former Bougainville Revolutionary Army General, Sam Kauona, has welcomed the launching of the Mining Program. And with mining activities now being opened, this will allow for more internal revenue for the Autonomous Region development. He said that Bougainville under the new existing Bougainville Mining Law 2014, gives effect to landowners.

Kauona also performed a traditional ritual, reconciling with President Momis.

“I do not want to see any one toea and above on tax go to the National Government. As of today, all tax are to remain with the Autonomous Bougainville Government,” he said.
