Morobe province aims to finish off its election preparations before National Election dates

Morobe province is looking to finish off its preparations in time for the election dates.

Election Manager for Morobe, Simon Soheke, says a submission of K21million to fund the election operations in the province is yet to be approved.

However, the PNG electoral commission has allocated more than K109,000 to the 9 districts to fund elections in their own electorates.

The election will be counter-funded by the PNG Electoral Commission, and the districts. The total operational cost is about half a million kina.

Morobe’s election office has already done three recruitments.

The first recruitment was for 2 assistant returning officers, while the second recruitment was for enrolment agents , and ward enrolment committees.

The third recruitment was done for coordinators, checkers and data processing officers.

” In the roll update, we have completed seven LLGs and we expected to update over 200 ward’s,” Mr. Soheke said.

Soheke, says his office is planning to use the local manpower in each of the districts or LLGs which will cut down on cost of airlifting workers to remote areas.

However, the biggest challenge is to carry out awareness

The Morobe Provincial Government in this year’s budget has allocated K1million to support the election operations.

Provincial Program Advisor, Roy Naiab, says among other things the K1million will be focused mainly on election awareness and election roll updates.
