Nurses’ Domestic Market Allowance Clarified by National Association

The Papua New Guinea Nurses Association has clarified the confusions raised by personnel officers on the nurses’ Domestic Market Allowance or, DMA.

Vice President, Frederick Kebai told EMTV News that all personnel officers in each provincial health authority or provincial hospital must ensure funds are paid accordingly, as compliant to nurse’s awards.

There is a lot of confusion, raised by personnel officers throughout the country, and I just want to make it clear to them, that the normal DMA, is with a salary range of K3,000 to K15,000, and the special DMA which is only applicable to specialist nurses with higher qualifications of masters and PhD,” he said.

Meanwhile, General Secretary, Edward Foe, told EMTV News, 4,000 members registered under the Papua New Guinea Nurses Association should have received their awards in pay period 25, in compliance to directions from the Personnel Management Department.

“Most of the workstations, hospitals, have complied by the directions from the Personnel Management Department and the National Health Department to implement the award in pay period 25 and 26,”

While the nurses awards have already being implemented in Pay Period 25, those serving in rural areas might receive it late, because of remoteness.

“Some areas are yet to implement because of remoteness but as far as we are concerned, the nurses awards have been implemented,” Foe said.
