Three different trainings conducted by members of the Papua New Guinea Defense Force First Battalion have concluded.
They include the Foundation Skills Training completed by the Alfa Company and the Direct Fire Support Weapons training undertaken by Mortar Company
With the conclusion of the security operations for the 2018 APEC Summit, the Papua New Guinea Defence Force is now preparing for other security tasks that lie ahead.
Soldiers from the Frist Royal Pacific Islands Regiment, based out of Taurama, have always led from the frontline.
Beginning in February, a number of training programs coordinated out of the Goldie River Training Depot and 1RPIR Base have seen the completion of three separate exercises.
The Foundation Skills Training, a Refresher Exercise that begun on February 25th and ended on 3rd of March was aimed at preparing soldiers for Stability Operations and other Battalion Exercise
The Direct Fire Support Weapons and the Signaller or Radio Operation Training were facilitated by the Mentoring Training Team from the Australian Defence Force – First Royal Australian Regiment.
The Direct Fire Support Weapon is a unit in the PNGDF which specializes with firearms.
It was an important unit that supported PNGDF during the Bougainville Crisis and restoration of peace process.
However, due to limited resources and financial challenges, no training of such magnitude was conducted for soldiers in the last 20 years.
The first training was conducted in May 2018 and this is a continuation of the specialised training.
