A young man is dead following a fight that broke out between two groups in Lae’s Busurum Compound last week Sunday. The groups met to arrange for the repatriation of another young man’s body who was killed two weeks ago, over a disagreement about the ownership of a small crocodile.
Police reports state that there were retaliation attacks following this, and police have implicated those suspected of killing the young man. Whilst a mediation was being held, another fight broke out.
On Monday, Lae Police boss Anthony Wagambie Jr spoke with the community urging cooperate with police and allow them to deal with the case.
He said the problem has affected school children, mothers, and a large population of the workforce that live in the area.
He added that criminal matters will be dealt with by police, however, they will need support from community leaders to restore normalcy in the community.
