Young AFL Teams Prepare

The AFL PNG U17 female team is now undergoing training in preparation for the Queensland U17 State Championship in October.

Training alongside them is the U14 male team, also preparing for their upcoming matches in Brisbane.

AFL PNG Senior Development Officer, Ian Karme, said selections were done last July during their respective regional development carnivals.

Selections for the U17 and the U14 teams were done from carnivals in Port Moresby, Lae, Kavieng, Kimbe and Mt Hagen.

Karme said the players selected from other centres have development officers on the ground and trainings are done respectively.

AFL PNG has been sending an U14 male team for the last 10 years and this year is no different.

This will also be the second year, for the U17 girls to participate in the Queensland U17 State Championship.

Karme added team members from other centres will all come together for training camps in October before the travel dates.
