Yama frustrated over Usino Bandi Recount

The recount for the Usino Bandi seat in Madang has slowly progressed into its fourth day.

 

This followed a direction froPNG Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen after several delays.

However, candidates have expressed frustration overthe lack of urgency to act onthe court order issued bythe courts for the recount.

 

Mr. Peter Yama who has orchestrated court proceedings to havethe recount said he will not hesitate to file anther contempt of court against Electoral Commission ifthere are more delays.

 

“The order ofthe court is that “Recount what is inthe box and return back before 15th of August,” says Yama.

“Bet I don’t know whytheReturning Officer is continuing to delaythe counting on Wednesday and today for the second time.

“If this happens tomorrow againthe third day, I have no options but I will come back to Port Moresby with my lawyer and I will getthe contempt proceedings againstthe returning officer andthe lawyer becausethey are deliberately doing whatthey are doing and continue to suppressthe rights of Usino Bandi people.
