Wongkins village in danger

Wongkins village inthe Morobe Province is in danger of being washed away bythe Watut River.

A team fromthe Morobe Provincial Disaster office and Wafi-Golpu Community Affairs visitedthe flood stricken village in lower Watut last Thursday.

The mining company delivered relief assistance and also advisedthe people to mover to higher grounds.

The recent assessment of damaged homes, food gardens, cooking and drinking water concluded thatthe Watut River, creeks and lakes contributed tothe destruction.

The locals have relocatedtheir village to higher grounds.

They have been advised to construct temporary shelters and remainthere tillthe waters subside.

The Community Affairs team representing Morobe Mining last Thursday donated twenty six tarpaulins. 

Morobe Provincial Disaster Director, Charlie Masange said an assessment report and recommendation will be provided to government authorities to consider for assistance.

However, Wafi-Golpu Community Affairs village liaison officer ChesterInoa saidthe Wongkins village is in danger of being washed away bythe Watut River.

The locals are calling for help.

The Watut River has already destroyed several communities along its banks recently.
