West New Britain Provincial Health Authority Board members, have started their duties by visiting Rural Health Centers in the Talasea District.
Governor Sasindran Muthuvel thanked the Board, for the initiative to see the challenges that Rural Health Centers face in terms of service delivery.
He also urged the National Department of Health, to do a proper planned facility audit, and seriously consider upgrading the Bialla Health Centre into a District Hospital, to serve the large populace in the East Nakanai LLG.
Governor Muthuvel also appealed to the PHA Board, to schedule a trip to make inspections as such to the Kandrian Rural Health Centers, to find out the challenges faced in the area, and find avenues to address these problems at their level.
Challenges identified include, rundown facilities, staff shortage, no proper staff housing, and the dire need for electricity and proper sanitation. The Board will have the ultimate powers to make essential decisions for the Health Service in the Province.
The Board is made up of professional individuals from various sectors, chaired by former United Church Moderator, Reverend Samson Lowa. The delegation was accompanied by a Technical team from the National Department of Health.
