Wigmen Threaten Boycott

The change of venue from Lae to Kokopo for the 2014 Digicel Cup grand final this weekend has not gone down well with Hela Wigmen.

Chairman, Andy Hetra, said the sudden change of venue was not fair and not in   accordance with the calendar set out earlier in the year, where the grand final would be played in Lae.

They have threatened to boycott this weekend’s grand final match against Rabaul Gurias.

The Hela Wigman expressed disappointment at the sudden change of venue from Lae to Kokopo early this week.

Chairman Andy Hetra said, the changes by PNGNRL, reflects management issues within the code.

Hetra’s only concern is the sudden change, is not cost effective for both the team and their faithful supporters.

The Hela Wigmen Rugby Limited has agreed to exceed their expenses if PNGNRL is concerned about security in Lae.

The Wigmen say they are prepared to face the consequences if the decision is not reversed.

The PNGNRL Board late this afternoon, advised that they will convene urgently, to discuss the venue, and most likely set a new date for the grand final.
