PORT MORESBY, July 15 – Athletics will once again be the top draw at Port Moresby 2015 on Thursday as some of the Pacific Games’ most prestigious track events take place at the BSP Stadium.

PNG golden girl Toea Wisil will take centre stage as she aims to complete a sprint double by adding the women’s 200m title to her 100m crown, won on Tuesday.

And in the men’s 200m race, Fijian phenomenon Ratu Banuve Tabakaucoro will be the hot favourite for gold after his blistering sprint in the 100m.

Papua New Guinea’s women are expected to dominate the 4x400m relay and also harbour medal hopes in the men’s race.

Gold medals will also be handed out on the track in the women’s 1500m, men’s 5000m and both sprint hurdles events.

Men’s high jump and women’s javelin are among the field events that will be settled, while heptathlon will culminate with the 800m race at 18:30.

Women’s soccer reaches its climax on Thursday, with New Caledonia facing Papua New Guinea for the gold medal in a repeat of the Noumea 2011 Pacific Games final.

Taekwondo kicks off at the BSP Arena, with eight gold medals up for grabs on the first day of competition.

And at the Port Moresby Racquets Club, five gold medals will be won.

There are three on offer in tennis, as the men’s, women’s and mixed doubles finals take place.

In squash, the men’s and women’s doubles will be settled.

Golf, lawn bowls, volleyball, beach volleyball, softball, boxing and netball will also see action on Thursday.
