Dept. of Works Secretary On Road Conditions

by Quinton Alomp – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Department of Works secretary, David Wereh, says the department’s goal is to have 75 percent of all road networks in the country in a good condition by the year 2017.

He said that improving the road conditions around the country is one of the priorities for the government.

According to Mr Wereh, the Works departments priority before 2017 is to maintain all national roads.

“To achieve this sufficient and accurate data is critical,” the Works secretary said.

By mid-July the Department of Works hopes to complete an analysis of the Highlands highway.

Over the years, various international aid donors such as Ausaid, JICA, Asian Development Bank, World Bank and others have been instrumental in funding the road projects around the country.

However, road maintenance remains a challenge.

And with more accurate data, the Works department hopes to achieve its goal by 2017.
