Wau Bridge Completed Despite Lack of DSIP Funding

By Bethanie Harriman – EM TV News, Lae

Despite the challenges of district funding from the National Government, the Bulolo District Development Authority has completed a bridge in Wau.

The Wau Bridge was build at a cost around 2.4 million Kina. The Bulolo District has only received 2 million Kina out of the fifteen million Kina district funds from the national government.

The Bulolo District Authority had a verbal agreement with the contractor who built the bridge over the Wau River. The bridge was built on a credit basis.

Bulolo MP, Sam Basil, whilst opening the new bridge, said the district has only received two million Kina of the fifteen million Kina district funds.

He later explained that the cost of this project would be shouldered on the contractor and supplier, until the DDA can pay them.

“It cost a lot of money, but I am very greatful that we have a lot of understanding people around that have taken my word before going around to implement projects,” said Basil

This isn’t the first time that the Bulolo MP, has come out publically stating cash shortfalls- last year he did the same when Bulolo didn’t receive its full slice of the District funding allocations.

The Bulolo District Authority has been able to build over eight bridges in the last two years with the funding they have been receiving.
