Water Project Announced for Eight Mile Settlement

By Michelle Amba – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Like many settlements in the city of Port Moresby facing issues with accessing vital government services, the eight mile settlement in Port Moresby is no exception.

For years the community has been struggling to collect water for their daily needs such as cooking, drinking and washing.

The eight mile settlement is made up people from all the provinces of PNG. The settlement has a population of over 20,000 people.

They get their water from illegal connections and nine communal taps, which serve the entire population of the settlement.

However, there is now some hope for the people with an announcement by the office of the member for Moresby North East, Labi Amaiu, to deliver a water project into the settlement.

The project is worth K5 million and will have water pipes connected into the area.

The community has formed an association to help Eda Ranu deliver this important service.
