Wanted Criminal Who Issued Threats to Lae Police Investigators Arrested

An escaped criminal, wanted by police for his role in a string of robberies and threatening police investigators, has been arrested in Ramu by Lae police.

Reuben Raphael Masimo, 32, from East Sepik was arrested by the Police Intelligence Unit and Lae based Mobile Squad 13, following a dawn raid at the home of his wife.

“The suspect was wanted for a string of robberies and is clearly featured in CCTV footage of the robberies,” said Metropolitan Superintendent for Lae, Anthony Wagambie. “It’s also believed he escaped form the Kerevat Jail in East New Britain and he will be charged for this accordingly when confirmed.”

Acting on a tip off,  Lae police traveled to Ramu and conducted the raid on the house. A factory-made Winchester shortbarreled shotgun, two shotgun cartridges and seven 9mm pistol bullets were found in a bag belonging to Masimo’s wife.

According to police, Masimo also issued death threats to police investigators after the shooting and arrest of some of his accomplices in West Taraka last month.

Masimo’s wife has been charged for having in her possession, unlicensed firearms and ammunition. She pled guilty yesterday and was sentenced to 10 months hard labour.

Police said Masimo will have appropriate charges laid against him.
