Councilors have been declared for several wards in Lae Urban andthe counting for the Lae Lord Mayor Seat still continues.

Amongstthe declared is woman candidate Carolyn Yawing, who wonthe Ward 2 councilor seat.

Electoral Commission officials say thatthe counting has progressed well. More elimination happened last night and progressive results are expected to be up today.

The sitting Lord Mayor, James Khay, could be in trouble because ther candidates are catching up with only hundreds in count differences  as counting goes intothe advanced stages of elimination.

“The counting for the Lord Mayor Seat continues, butthe difference betweenthe candidates is not much,” said AssistantReturning Officer, Asigau Tau.

James Khay has been pushing for financial autonomy for the Lae City Council as well as a stop to settlement evictions. His numbers are coming from people that support this policy.
