UNITECH Lead Investigator attacked

The lead investigator inthe University of Technology’s fraud investigation has been discharged from hospital after treatment for a stab wound he received from an unknown assailant.

Detective Sergeant,   Michael Aluy, was attacked last Wednesday night when he was dropping off withnesses in anther case nearthe Lae Bescuit factory outside Lae City.

One ofthe attackers struck him with a sharp object and twistedthe weapon causing a deep wound to his arm.

Mr Aluy is looking intothe misuse of more than K600, 000 of public funds paid out to private accounts by former and current University staff. Three people have been arrested so far.

Lae’s Metropolitan Police Commander, Ivan Lakatani, who was atthe hospital said it could have been an opportunistic crime but he isn’t ruling outthe possibility thatthe attack could be related tothe investigationsthe fraud detective, is conducting.

Mr Lakatani has made a public call for people to respectthe work ofthe police.
