Undisposed Market Rubbish Posing Health Concerns

Residents and market sellers at Malaoro market are calling uponthe NCDC and Health authority to do something withthe pile of rubbish mounting atthe market.

The pile of rubbish has totally blockedthe road off and is posing health concerns tothe public and nearby residents.

It keeps building as authorities responsible for disposing neglecttheir duties.

Residents have been breathing inthe awful smell fromthe waste for some months now.

Ronney Luweina a retired police officer who resides next tothe Market saidthe ceasing of rubbish collection contractors has left this rubbish unattended.

“We needthe authority to come down and look atthe rubbish here and moverthe rubbish every now andthen…orthe market manager from NCDC should always check and removerthe pile of rubbish every day,” said Luweina.

Luweina also raised concerns ofthe market extending tothe car park area causing traffic congestion for the residents.

NCD Market Manager Michael Minga directed EMTV to NCD Deputy Manager Social Services Honk Kiap for queries. However, Mr Kiap could not be reached for comments.

It is understood that contracts for rubbish collection insidethe city urban markets have been halted due to low payouts by NCD authority to contractors.

Meanwhile, few farmers raised complains for the sale of store items inthe market saying, it has occuplied large portion ofthe market giving little space for fresh produce sellers.
