Two More Arrests Made Concerning Misappropriation of Land Reform Trust Fund

by Mickey Kavera – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Two more officers have been arrested and charged today in relation to the misappropriation of the Land Reform Trust Fund.

Vavine Walo and Simeon Andrew will be facing similar charges as those laid against the former lands secretary, Romilly Kila Pat.

Both are senior officers within the Department of Lands and Physical Planning.

Walo is the Manager of Finance and Budget, while Andrew is the Corporate Director.

The charges are one count of misappropriation and one count of conspiracy.

It is believed that the pair conspired to defraud the state of over K208,000 by accessing the land reform trust account.

The cheque, which was then raised, was not used for the intended purposes of land reform, but for the purchase of other goods and services.

Kila Pat was out on K2,000 bail yesterday.

They are expected to appear before the Waigani Committal Court some time next week.

Investigations into the matter are still ongoing with more arrests expected to be made.
