Track Team in the US Makes History

Four PNG athletes are creating history at the Cloud County College in Kansas, United States of America.

Isila Apkup, Leonie Beu, Ephraim Lerkin, and Shadrick Tanzi who traveled to the US on the 23rd September last year for a two-year course have taken home trophies for Cloud County School in the regional indoor championship held recently.

Isila Apkup and Leonie Beu making a mark in assisting the school win its first regional championship after 40 years at Pittsburg State University in Kansas.

Beu clocked a personal best of 24.68 for second place in the 200m.

PNG boys with Ephraim Lerkin setting an indoor national record of 1min.21 seconds in the 600m and Shadrick Tansi posting a time of 49 in the 400m.

Both boys helped the men’s 4*400m set a new school record of 3min.13 seconds.

President Tony Green has commended the effort of the four athletes and says the response from the Cloud County Coach has been nothing less of applause.
