Toua Paves Way for Villagers to Register for NID Cards

by Vanessa Knight – EM TV, Port Moresby

PNG weightlifting sensation Dika Toua paved way for fellow villagers at Hanuabada by registering for her National Identity Card this week at the Laurabada United Church.

Registration booths were set up at the village as the NCD NID mobile registration enters into its third week of registration in rural areas.

As a large crowd gathered awaiting the national heroine’s arrival, Toua praised the government for introducing the National Identity System and the initiative to provide mobile registration into rural areas.

Toua said the NID system will identify her as a True PNG citizen whilst being abroad.

Constant travelling due to intense training and competition schedules has cost professional athletes, privileges enjoyed by lay citizens like casting votes for national elections.

According to NID National Coordinator Lawrence Doriga, more than 26,000 NCD residents have registered in under two weeks. Tallying of progressive total registration figures is still in process.
