Third Seasonal WorkersReturn

ThPNG Seasonal Workers Coordination Office yesterday welcomed backthe 6 member team who went fruit picking at Ironbark Citrus in Queensland, Australia.

Their 6-month-long participation in citrus work gained more confidence inthe farmer who has now asked for a futher 13 workers.

 

The Pacific Seasonal Worker Program was an Australian Government initiative to provide labour for manpower shortages inthe Horticulture industry in farms in Australia.

As part ofthe Papua New GuineaGovernment’s vision to increase job opportunities for the unemployed in Papua New Guinea,these 6 men who were previously unemployed, were selected to work inthe seasonal workers program after passing selection criterion.

Australian farmersthemselves who nominatedthe men afterthey passedtheir initial selection criterion, were happy withthe men’s work on previous visits underthe program, requestingtheir continued involvement.

Ninety-Five Papua New Guineas have so far participated in this program.
