A family that moved into a residential flat at Tokarara in NCD, whose former tenants were recently evicted, says they will not move out, and allow the former tenants to move back in.
This comes after National Housing Corporation Managing Director, John Dege, instructed an eviction, which was carried out, until four days later, when he requested for the evicted tenants, to move back in.
Thomas and Philomena Marinae, who are the new tenants that occupied a flat after the eviction, say they “will not move out.”
An evicted tenant, Germain Miro, in an earlier interview, says NHC evicted them because they fail to pay rentals. However, he says they used their own money for maintenance and that they will not let go easily.
When evicted two weeks ago, the eight occupants of the flat spent four nights sleeping in front of the units. The following day, Mr Dege felt sorry for the old tenants and changed his mind allowing them back to the units.
However, four new tenants who were given keys to the flats; and signed tenancy documents to occupy the flats have now hit back at Mr Dege, saying they are legal occupants.
Thomas and his wife Philomena demanded to know the reason behind the NHC decision and what legal process has been used.
They want the Housing Minister, Paul Isikiel to immediately step in look into the matter.
