The APEC International Media Centre (IMC) will be established in the centre during the Summit Week.

CEO of APEC Authority, Christopher Hawkins said the centre was the perfect venue for the IMC, and  adds that all efforts are being made to ensure there is minimal disruption to public use.

“It is very important that all users of the centre know that any closure will only be for a matter of days while high security operation is underway,” says Mr Hawkins.

Hawkins alluded to the statement made by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and the Minister for APEC, Justin Tkatchenko have all APEC events delivered in a safe and secure environment with minimal disruption to the public.

“For the weeks leading up to the APEC Leaders’ Week the basketball courts will be use as the IMC is constructed.

“Otherwise there will be no interruption to the use of the pool, the changing rooms, High Performance Centre and other facilities,” adds Hawkins.

Hawkins however said that access would be restricted during the Summit Week from November 11 to 18.

Plans for the establishment of the International Media Centre were finalised in a meeting held recently with PNG Sports Foundation CEO, Peter Tsiamalili and Chief Operating Officer, David Aua.

Mr Hawkins has also thanked the PNG Sports Foundation for its support.
