Tangit Suspended over Rural Electrification Program

by Theckla Gunga – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The Energy Workers Association General Secretary, Santee Margis, says EWA supports the employment of the suspended PNG Power Chief Executive Officer, John Tangit.

Mr. Margis said the union will support Mr. Tangit because he is a Papua New Guinean.

“Even though he (Tangit) is not a member of the Energy Workers’ Association, we are in support of Tangit as the Chief Executive Officer of PNG Power Limited.

EWA members said Tangit’s suspension is related to the incomplete work on the National Rural Electrification program in some districts in Papua New Guinea and has nothing to do with the stop work.

In the meantime, PPL Executive Director John Mangos will be acting both the CEO and the Executive Director. Mr. Mangos told EM TV News that he will be taking up both roles.

“Yes, I have taken take up both the roles because of Tangit’s suspension, both roles are combined,” said Mangos.
