Sweep Team to investigate SHP Road Works

Cabinet has directed Task Force Sweep Team to investigatethe 21 kilometre road sealing work between Walum Junction and Wara Angula in Southern Highlands Province.

The project has costthe state K80 million but remains incomplete after almost five years.

Works Minister Francis Awesa is concerned many road contractors have defraudedthe state off millions of kina with incomplete or low quality works.

Meanwhile,the National Executive Council has approverdthe sealing oftheInauabui to Bereina section ofthe Hiritano highway.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said this will be implemented underthe Road maintenance and rehabilitation project funded jointly bytheWorld Bank andthe government.

Mr. O’Neill said this upgrading coincides withthe development ofthe Gulf LNG project.
