Sports Scene – Episode 26, 2014

In this episode:

Remington Raskals have taken the grandfinal trophy with a nine five victory against team ANZ in the cup grandfinal of the slow pitch softball competition held at the Bisini Diamonds.

Remington led by pitcher, William Pupun, proved too strong in the carving out a hard fought win.

Leading one nil by the end of the first innings, Remington were rolling with confidence with their field cover and placed ANZ under pressure when big hitter Dimitrius Wosley hit a home run to put them back on level terms.

While ANZ were boosted by the spark in batting, Remington’s in-field cover was stepping up and they were able to halt ANZs runners.

Momase FC in the Port Moresby Soccer Association’s Super League division beat Blue Kumuls two goals to one, in an end-to-end encounter at the Bisini park in Port Moresby.

Leading one nil for much of the match, blue Kumuls hit back to level the scores before Momase struck again to ensure their 2014eason campaign was off to a good start.

The match started off slowly with Momase holding the ball early in their own half, hoping to draw out the Blue Kumul defence.

Moving from the 11 a side to the smaller version of the game and Futsal heads into another round of competition at DBTI in Port Moresby.

Hosting another Saturday, the Port Moresby Futsal competition saw some outstanding display of soccer skills in the mixed division. Kicking off their matches as early as 9 in the morning, the Port Moresby Futsal matches saw the mixed division matches exhibite skills from both seasoned football as well as amateur players.

The third mixed division match saw Mix mates in lock in their opponents on a 5 all draw. While in the fourth match, Sea Bee’s took on C.I in a one-sided affair.

In his 3rd month of playing futsal, 17-year-old lad, Edward Lakae was outstanding in the box for Sea Bee’s.

Taking the match out 4-2 over C.I, the code is currently being piloted in Port Moresby, and PNG Football Association President, David Chung hopes the completion will spark an interest around the country.
