Sports Minister Plans to Increase Seating Capacity in Stadiums

While Papua New Guineans seem to embrace sporting events in the country, Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko said seating capacities at both the National Football Stadium and the Sir John Guise stadium will have to increase, as there is great interest shown by the people of PNG.

While these two stadiums can only cater for 15,000 and 20,000 spectators, Tkatchenko said it has come to his attention that more seats will be required for future events.

The plan is to increase the seating volume to 25,000 plus. He said, knowing that the stadiums will be full and tickets will be sold out, other viewing options will also be provided for the general public and for people who cannot make it into the stadium.

Tkatchenko said, with only limited time to the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, construction and extension of seating arrangements will be looked at straight after the game.

Outdoor screens will be placed in various locations in the city to view the historic event.
