Special Olympics: Team of 32 to RepresenttPNG

A team of 32 including 9 athletes, parents, coaches and uniflied partners will represenPNG atthe Special Olympics, Asia Pacific Regional Games in Australia.

They will participate in athletics and various events in track and field.

 

There will also be a 4 x 100m relay team. The youngest onthe team is 9 year old Delma Gahuna of Tubuserea Village, including 24 year old Thompson Ninkama of Eastern Highlands Province.

 

Special OlympicPNG athletes came fromthe Eastern Highlands Province, Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Central, Gulf and NCD.

 

TheInaugural Special Olympics 2013 Asia Pacific Regional Games in Newcastle, Australia will be held from Novermber 28 to December 7th.

 

Special OlympicPNG has given more kids living with disabilities,the opportunity to excel in Sport.

 

SOPNG, as it is also known celebrated its first anniversary onthe 28th of this month coinciding withthe ‘Eunice Kennedy Shriver’ Day

 

Eunice Kennedy isthe co-founder ofthe Special Olympics initiative to give people especially children living with disabilities equal opportunities.

 

It was a fun day out for all as participants played sports, while thers showed offtheir painting and drawing skills.

 

SOPNG Committee Members were pleased withthe day which was hosted bythe Prime Minister’s Wife, Linda Bebao.

 

Organizers thanked major sponsor Digicel for makingtheir projects possible with help from Goodman FieldersInternational and LagaIndustries.

 

The next big day out for the Special Olympic Members will be held atthe end ofthe month.
