SP PNG Hunters Winger Accepts Melbourne Storm Offer

By Elijah Lavett – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

SP PNG Hunters and Kumuls Winger, Justin Olam, has accepted an offer from the Melbourne Storm to join the club for the 2017 and 2018 season.

The contract with the Melbourne team is subject to Olam passing a full medical check in Brisbane next week.

The Storm contract means Olam will be based in Melbourne, and training full time as a member of their NRL team.

Olam says he was shocked when he was told, and never expected to make it into the NRL in such a short period of time having debuted for the Hunters only this year.

PNGRFL CEO, Bob Cutmore, says Olam’s dedication and commitment to training has paid off over the last eight months with the Hunters. Senior staff of the PNGRFL and SP PNG Hunters have been in discussion with the Storms.

SP PNG Hunters Coach, Michael Marum, congratulated Olam on his achievement.

Last night, Olam’s signing was announced to the Hunters team, with the boys showing their support and encouragement.

Justin will remain with the Hunters for the rest of the 2016 season, he will have the opportunity to spend a week with the Melbourne Storm during the Hunters weekend bye.

With the outstanding performance of the SP PNG Hunters in the Queensland Intrust Super Cup and the recent success in the Test arena, this will see other players be given the opportunity to try their skills in the NRL.
