Solomon Islands Want’Stronger Berder Watch

A Solomon Island official requested thaPNG andthe Solomon Islands’ border agencies work closely to monitortheir common border.

 

Taro Island Administration Executive Manager Roland Lapo saidthe SI government is equally concerned aboutthe uncontrolled and un-monitored activities that are happeningthere.

Taro Island inthe Choiseul Province is some 3 hours’ drive on a banana boat from Kangu beatch in South Bougainville.

 

Mr. Lapo said that his administrationthere is growing concern to reduce trafficking of both human and illegal drugs and firearms.

 

Recently, his team escorted representatives fromthPNG border agencies to one of its Island to observetheir operations and infrastructure.

 

They had travelled tothe Island to observe operations and infrastructurethere.

 

They were impressed bythe new infrastructure. The 10 houses funded by AusAID are for the Police personnel.

 

The police officersthere have been tasked to maintain law and order inthe Choiseul Province, and monitorthPNG-Solomon Island border as well.

 

BeA is working on developing all border posts inthe country. Its major project is atthe Wutung border postoSandaun Province.
