Soldiers in Force Support Battalion Engage in Military Exercises

Soldiers in the Force Support Battalion, a unit in the PNG Defence Force, are undergoing basic military training, as lead up to its eighth anniversary celebrations.

This week, the seven companies competed in several military exercises, to win the Best Company Title, for 2016.

The training is called Exercise Trained Soldiers, and includes route matching, tug of wars and swimming, amongst others.

The Force Support Battalion is a new unit in the PNG Defence Force.

It was formed in 2009 to provide necessary logistic support to other units within the Force.

The seven companies in this unit include the Military Police, Ceremonial, Transport and Workshop Companies.

The training is focused on building confidence in the younger soldiers and section commanders.

This morning, they engaged in an attack drill, obstacle encounter and swimming exercises.

Apart from competing against the different companies, the supervisors are also assessing individual performances of each soldier.

This year’s competition has seen an increase in women soldiers.

The Unit will be commemorating its eighth year next month.
