A senior Correctional Service officer says building small water projects for rural areas is easier than eyeing huge projects.
Director for Rural Lockups, Superintendent Ranson Tiki, said this after attending the 8th Pacific Water Expo in Port Moresby.
Superintendent Tiki said water is becoming scarce and a struggle for rural lockups.
After seeing the dry season felt by the country and noting the need for a sustainable water supply, Superintendent Ranson Tiki said building environmentally friendly and cost saving projects is vital.
He attended the 8th Pacific Water and Waste Management Conference Expo and was thrilled with the solar generated water system.
He says, the government is focused on major provincial correctional institutes but rural lockups are as important to curb crime and lawlessness.
Water PNG Chief Executive, Raka Taviri Jnr, says PNG must preserve and be more wise when using water as many mining activities are polluting our water ways.
The 8th Pacific Water and Waste Management Conference and Expo finished on a high note with Pacific state ministers signing a communique to table water problems in the next Pacific Island Forum.
